Recommended Localisation and Translation Books
If you're new to localisation or just want to learn we recommend the following books Especially Bert's and Jost's.
|
|
A Practical Guide to Localization by Bert Esselink
If you buy only one book on localisation make sure this is it. Even if you just dip in every so often, rather than read every word - you'll still get value for money. It is comprehensive and easy to understand, it's a great place to learn about localisation but is also an excellent reference book which you can turn to no matter how experienced you are. Unfortunately this book is becoming very difficult to get hold of, so when you click through to Amazon you'll need to order the book through on of the 'other' resellers. |

A Translator's Tool Box—A Computer Primer for Translators by Jost Zetzsche is a excellent e-book that is updated frequently and includes a 12 month subscription to the premium edition of Jost's bi-weekly newsletter. The book costs $40.00 click here to buy, or here to find out about more about Jost's favourite localisation tools. |

XML Internationalization by Yves Savourel is the definitive book about internationalising XML documents, by the localisation industry XML expert (just search Yves Savourel in Google and you'll see what we mean). Most of us would like to learn more about XML and the 544 pages in this book will provide more than enough information. See also Yves' and Tex Texin's Web Internationalization
Standards and Practice
tutorial, download here. Like Esselink's book, this book also seems to becoming increasing difficult to source. |

Available in May 2007, this is the latest version of a Mac classic - if you want to learn about Macs or learn more buy this book.
We rate the Missing Manual much higher than the other 'introductory' levels series such as Dummies and Idiots. Missing Manuals don't trivialise the subject mater and are published by O'Reilly who produce excellent information technology books. |

A good place to start really understanding and therefore maximising Office 2007. |

Resistance is futile - you know you'll have to get to grips with it sooner or later - this book will help - a lot! |

For beginners we recommend the step-by-step series, but for more advance users and system administrators t he 'inside out' series is better. This book also covers The Outlook Business Contact Manager, as discussed in many of our 'Selling Translations' training courses. |

Ok, Ok, so it's not strictly translation related, but for anyone wishing to have a good understanding of web localisation this is a great book if the web site was created with DreamWeaver (and a lot are). |

This pocket is a part of a much larger series. It is used by many trainers as a way of preparing courses. |

This huge book is for anyone who is serious about SharePoint which can be used to create portals for handling files and project management information. It is hardback because a paperback wouldn't support the weight of the pages ;-) |

If you don't want to book on one of our sales training courses - then maybe this would be useful (and concise) alternative. |

We strongly recommend Dawson's 'Secrets of Power Negotiating' to all participants on our Sales Training courses. It is a practical book, which simplifies a sometimes complex and anxiety inducing activity. Whilst we recommend you read all the book, it is a book you can refer to later for reference as well. |

Stephan Schiffman's Telesales, is an excellent straight forward telephone selling book. It treats topics in very digestible chunks / chapters. Any one in sales will find it useful but it is particularly recommended for those cold calling. |
