An Introduction to Machine Translation
Machine Translation is software that translates from a language into the required language(s) with varying degrees of human input. The best known examples being the language tools in Google and Alta vista's Babel Fish Translation. The key being the amount of input required by the user. Google and Altavista require little more than choosing the language pairs and entering the text. This 'easy option' arguably gives the least useful translation as the machine translation software knows very little about the context of the text to be translated, so sometimes for example the software would accidentally try to translate people's names within the text.
So the next level of 'quality result' requires the user to give more context for the translation - and this is where the 'automatic translation' idea starts to unravel a little.
Expectations are perhaps the biggest enemy of the casual machine translation user - if you're not prepared to work a little with your machine translation program then we'd (without understanding your own particular needs) recommend you stick to the free translation sites on the internet.

 Morphologic's MetaMorpho program translates from English into Hungarian, the Hungarian to English version is under preparation. The members of the MetaMorpho line use the same language data bases, thus their translation quality is the same but they can be reached at different interfaces:
